If you've never had a professional wax before, the range of options can be confusing. Here's what each actually covers, and a few honest tips for a better first experience.
The options, explained
- Underarms (from $20, ~15 min) — quick, low-discomfort, a good first wax if you want to try the process before anything bigger.
- Bikini line (from $30, ~30 min) — tidies the edges without going further.
- Brazilian, front only (from $65, ~45 min) or Brazilian, front and back (from $75, ~45 min) — full coverage. This is the one most first-timers are nervous about; a good technician works quickly and talks you through each step.
- Half legs, 3/4 legs, or full legs (from $45-$70) — priced by coverage, so you only pay for what you're doing.
- Full arms, stomach, full back, full face — all available individually, so you're not stuck booking a bigger package than you need.
- Full body wax including Brazilian (from $215) — the complete option if you're doing everything at once.
How to prepare
- Hair length matters. You want at least 5mm of growth (roughly 2 weeks post-shave) for wax to grip properly. Too short and it won't lift the hair; the appointment won't work as well.
- Avoid the appointment if you're due for your period in the next day or two — skin is more sensitive around this time for most people, so shifting the booking a few days either way makes a real difference to comfort.
- Exfoliate the day before, not the day of. This helps prevent ingrown hairs but freshly exfoliated skin on the day itself can be more reactive.
- Loose clothing after. Tight fabric on freshly waxed skin isn't comfortable and can irritate.
What actually happens
Wax is applied in the direction of hair growth, then removed against it in quick strips. A good technician keeps skin taut, works efficiently, and checks in with you throughout — especially for a first Brazilian. It's normal to feel some discomfort; it should never feel like more than that.
Aftercare
Avoid hot showers, saunas, swimming pools, and tight exercise gear for 24 hours — waxed skin is more prone to irritation and ingrown hairs during this window. After that, gentle exfoliation 2-3 times a week keeps regrowth soft and reduces ingrowns long-term.
