The two most common colour bookings we get are a root touch-up and a global colour, and clients often aren't sure which one they actually need. Here's the distinction.
Root touch-up
This targets just the new growth at your roots — typically 1-2cm of regrowth showing your natural colour against your dyed length. It's faster (around 80 minutes for us), gentler on hair that's already colour-treated further down, and it's the right call if:
- Your mid-lengths and ends are still a colour you're happy with
- You just want the grow-out line gone
- You're maintaining a colour you've had done before
At Velvet Touch, a root touch-up starts from $65.
Global colour
This treats the whole head, roots to ends, in one uniform colour. It's the right call if:
- You're changing your colour, not just maintaining it
- Your existing colour has faded unevenly or gone brassy throughout
- It's your first time colouring, or it's been long enough that the old colour and new growth need to be brought into line together
Global colour starts from $180 and takes around an hour.
What about foils and highlights?
If you want dimension rather than a flat single colour — highlights, lowlights, balayage-style pieces — that's a different conversation again. We offer full head foils (from $180) and half head foils (from $90), plus a half head foils + toner option if you want the highlights toned to a specific finish.
Not sure which you need?
Send us a photo of your current colour and roots when you enquire, or just come in for a consult — we'll tell you honestly which option gets you the result you want without over-servicing hair that doesn't need it.
